“He makes me melt like a popsicle on the 4th of July.”
The Little Rascals

Music, anyone? (*Open it in a new tab*)

Well, it looks like I’ve decided to utilize alliteration today with my title. I’ll say it’s the elementary-aged kid trapped within my 31-year-old body! πŸ˜‰
What an eventful weekend last week! For the Fourth of July, Jonathan and I went to our friend’s home to celebrate with some fireworks, strawberry picking, playing Kubb (a yard game), and all around general playfulness. Play is my favorite. πŸ™‚ I had a blast jumping on the trampoline (such a good workout and so FUN!) a couple of times and sharing lots of laughter with our friends. At one point, there was a firework-related fiasco! Unfortunately, a bigger firework tipped over and exploded on the cul-de-sac of on-lookers, including our friend and her son! (There was even a scorch mark on hos blanket! Yikes!) There was some mild body damage done to ankles and necks, and everyone was ultimately okay – if not a bit shaken! I am grateful that no one experienced severe damage to their bodies or property from that accident. Fireworks be dangerous, folks!

Nothing like a bit of horsing around and play to celebrate a holiday!
I wrangled Jonathan into joining me too! Cardio play-time! … We’re getting older though. Jon did a backflip and then immediately said, “OW! My neck!”
The tastiest strawberries you’ll ever pick. Yum! (Thanks for sharing, Scott and Rae!)
Kubb: The nemesis of anyone with poor aim and depth perception.
The firework table that Scott had going! Jon and I contributed a little to this with fireworks we brought, but Scott had the lion’s share in here!
Jonathan scoping out more strawberries in their backyard while fireworks were going up front in the cul-de-sac and I was swinging on their tree swing.
One of Jon’s friends gave him this hilarious shirt within the past year or two for Fourth of July. So, of course, Jonathan made sure to sport the attire. Haha!
I love my sparklers. πŸ™‚ They’re pretty!… and relatively quite safe. πŸ˜‰
A lovely 4th of July, indeed. Shared with friends! Thanks for having us over. πŸ™‚

Since I am writing this entry five days into the future of the events in these photos, it is a tad difficult to write a huge amount about the goings-on of the day since it’s not as fresh. So, alas! This will not be my most informative or eloquent of gratitude and wonder entries. All I remember is that it ended up being a much more fun and enjoyable 4th of July than I had initially expected! However, I did not get to enjoy my usual traditional food, such as watermelon, flag cake, and Ruffles potato chips with sour cream and onion dip. Perhaps next year!

I feel grateful for…

  • … time with friends.
  • … Scott and Rae’s love and dedication to celebrating holidays!
  • … trampoline time. πŸ™‚
  • … that everyone was ultimately safe after the firework tip-over accident.
  • … yard games, laughter, and general silliness with other adults!
